On 16 August, ImagineFX will release its 100th issue. To celebrate the art that has helped defined the magazine since 2006, they’re searching for the definitive list of the 100 greatest fantasy artists, and the most popular ImagineFX cover – you get to decide!
The votes will celebrate the artists working in fantasy and sci-fi, showcasing those artists that have inspired us all and continue to do so through their creativity and timeless wonder.

Of course his art looks fantastic on dust jackets in the bookstore—and even reproduced on our website—but there is no substituting the wow factor of staring at his original paintings up close.
And then there’s the opportunity to speak with the artist himself. When Michael isn’t busy participating in panel discussions, he can usually be found at our booth.

Fresh off completing the last three books of The Wheel of Time series, Brandon Sanderson is set to return to his own epic The Stormlight Archive this fall. The sequel to The Way of Kings (Stormlight Book 2) will be titled Words of Radiance and is scheduled for release on November 12, 2013.
Michael Whelan will also be returning to the series. Clearly, this is a special author / artist pairing. Whelan won the Chesley Award for Best Cover Illustration (Hardcover) for The Way of Kings in 2010. His brilliant vision of Rand al’Thor adorned the cover of A Memory of Light, the last book of The Wheel of Time, earlier this year.

Michael Whelan will be a Special Guest at Spectrum Fantastic Art Live 2 in Kansas City, May 17-19.
The event grew out of the renowned SPECTRUM ANNUAL OF THE BEST IN CONTEMPORARY FANTASTIC ART. The juried annual, now in its 20th year, showcases the best in the field in a gorgeous coffee table book.
SPECTRUM FANTASTIC ART LIVE 2 is a celebration of art from our favorite science fiction, fantasy, and horror books, movies, and comics, providing a real world venue where fans, artists, and collectors can mingle while enjoying exhibits of original drawings, paintings and sculpture.

Michael Whelan is Artist Guest of Honor next month at JordanCon. It is especially geared toward the Atlanta area and the South in general, but fans are coming from all over the world for a chance to meet Michael, author Seanan McGuire (of bestseller FEED fame) and A MEMORY OF LIGHT’S Brandon Sanderson and Harriet McDougal.JordanCon is a fantasy literature convention founded in honor of the late Robert Jordan, author of the blockbuster series The Wheel of Time. This year JordanCon is joined by the regional SF convention DeepSouthCon, so events will include four tracks of simultaneous programming, an Art Show, a Dealers Hall, a masquerade contest and a ghost walk.
