Over the weekend, Michael Whelan received his 31st Locus Award for Best Artist. The awards, chosen by an online poll of readers, were presented on Saturday, June 25 by the Locus Science Fiction Foundation in Seattle, Washington.
Michael had this to say of the honor:
Believe me, I’m quite aware that there is no lack of excellent artists and work out there, and from what I see the quantity and quality has been getting better with each succeeding year.
There are so many fine artists working in our chosen field [however you wish to characterize it], and many of them are doing work that would have blown away all but the very best only a decade ago. Thus, to be picked out for this award gets more and more significant with each passing year.
My thanks go to everyone who voted for me to receive this award.
