LEFTOVERS & PALETTE GREMLINS

A spaceship thrusts out of black starry void toward an asymmetrical space station set against a gray cloudy backdrop. A sun peeks out from behind, tinting cloud yellow in radial streaks. Atop the saucer section, several crane-like booms extend outward and over a platform set mid-station right. Opposite, across the central structure, a ball shape protrusion is dotted green at the center of its aperture. A string of golden rectangles line the underside of the saucer rim. In square and longer rectangular groupings, more lights run down the central central shaft. The bottom of the station is hook shaped, thick and sturdy with a couple points of apparent articulation, until it tapers for a length ended in a curved back point.

STATION 5

“Palette gremlins” can emerge from a myriad of sources—light, shadow, cloud formations—but my most common inspiration is the paint patterns found around my drawing table.

How I get from random paint marks to a ship thrusting toward a funky space station is where the magic unfolds. I love the unpredictability of it all!
