THE MIRROR OF HER DREAMS
In this story, a contemporary misfit is accidentally drawn into an alternate reality. A narrative scene from this other world would make a great painting, but a misleading cover for the book.
The challenge for me was to communicate Terisa's alienation from the real world, her vision, and her desire to escape to another.
To do this I used the birds on the wallpaper to represent flight and freedom, and I combined elements from the real world (the thermostat, her contemporary hairstyle, clothes, and jewelry) with the image of her vision in the mirror.
Her gesture in almost embracing the mirror signifies her acceptance of that vision.
