DANBURY, CT – Join Michael Whelan for a night of sci-fi cinema and boldly go where no man or woman has gone when the international Best Sci Fi Film Festival comes to The Palace Danbury. One night only on Friday, September 6.
ORLEANS, MA – The highlight of the summer season at Tree’s Place gallery features masterful works of fantastic realism by Michael Whelan, Donato Giancola, Michael Alfano and Robert Vickrey.
Tree’s Place has been exhibiting and selling Whelan’s fine art since 1997. Whelan first discovered the gallery while viewing works by master of egg tempera Robert Vickrey. The artists would combine for a series of two-man shows over the years until Vickrey’s passing in 2011.
Whelan will be presenting new paintings SANCTUARY and OBSERVATION DECK along with several other personal visions including: DREAMSEEKER, ELLIE’S DREAM, IN A WORLD OF HER OWN, SEAWALL, THE END OF NATURE VII, and WIDE.

Stories of fantasy and science fiction dominate today’s cultural mainstream, and illustration plays a central role in the appeal and popular acceptance of the fantasy narrative.
This show features the innovators who have given shape and substance to the world’s most imaginative kinds of storytelling, and the more than 100 works on display encompass a full range of otherworldly images—from dragons, specters and demons, to the far reaches of deep space.
Austin, TX – Michael Whelan will be showcasing his original painting DREAMSEEKER in an exhibition titled “Infinite Worlds – The Art of the Fantastic”.
This month long gallery show presented by the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists (ASFA) will highlight artists working on a variety of projects from sculpture to book covers to creator owned endeavors.
The inaugural exhibition held at the Julia Butridge Gallery in the Dougherty Arts Center opens November 3 and runs until December 1.
Other artists on display include: Julie Dillon, Vanessa Lemen, Iain McCaig, John Jude Palencar, Dave Palumbo, John Picacio, Omar Rayyan, Greg Ruth, and Allen Williams.
Join legendary artist Michael Whelan next week at the 2018 World Fantasy Convention in Baltimore where he will be presenting OATHBRINGER, his latest cover from the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson.
Michael will also be contributing several classic paintings to a special exhibit titled “Warrior, Wanton, Witch”, a retrospective of women as depicted in fantasy. Those paintings include THUVIA, MAID OF MARS, THE SNOW QUEEN, and AMAZONS 2.
The art show will be on display all weekend but please be sure to join Michael for a special autograph session on Friday and then for the art show reception on Saturday evening.
Books and prints can be purchased at the convention as well as original art from his wildly popular LEFTOVERS & PALETTE GREMLINS gallery project.
This year, the World Fantasy Convention will be hosted at the Renaissance Baltimore located in the Inner Harbor. The art show will be in the Maryland Ballroom (DEF).
