AMAZONS 2 CONCEPT*
As a matter of practice, Michael used to produce color comps the size of a paperback cover before executing the final painting and this concept for AMAZONS 2 is a great example of that.
The anthology, published by DAW in 1981, collected stories featuring women characters written (mostly) by female writers. Michael based his illustration on a story about pirates. The dynamic lines of his composition and lean, powerful musculature conjure into battle a pair of tough, aggressive fighters worthy of the Amazon name.
