From the collection of Linda Erickson

Published cover illustration for The Gameplayers of Zan by M.A. Foster (DAW Books, 1976) and later collected in Wonderworks (Donning, 1979).

Michael Whelan began his career as a professional illustrator in 1975. With a bold color palette and imaginatively realist style, he quickly became one of the most sought after artists in science fiction and fantasy. This cover illustration is a prime example of his earliest works.

The original painting recently made its way back to the studio for a new frame, and the liner was hand-painted by Michael. Note how vibrantly it accents the star field in the background. The color and detail are simply mesmerizing.

We’re pleased to offer this rare opportunity to acquire vintage science fiction art by a grandmaster of the genre.
