HOPPING MAD*

As Artist Guest of Honor for Lucca Comics and Games last year, Michael created artwork used to promote all aspects of the festival.

This preliminary concept for his painting HEROES is based on the legend of the Devil’s Bridge near Lucca. Michael would later find out that legends of the Devil’s Bridges are prevalent throughout Europe and the UK.

Every country has its own variation, but the story always involves the Devil building a bridge in exchange for the promise of the first living being to cross it. A farmer or villager always sends an animal over the bridge first. The Devil, of course, is furious at having been deceived.
