NEITHER A BOY NOR A BOY-SIZED SPIDER*

Leftovers & Palette Gremlins
2022 Gallery Project – #14

“For a moment, it was neither a boy nor a boy-sized spider standing on the far end of the bridge but something that was both at the same time.”

-Stephen King, The Dark Tower – Part 4, Chapter 3, Seven

Mordred’s moment of transformation as Michael described to his friend and master sculptor Jordu Schell when they were discussing truly terrifying works of horror. As a lark, Jordu produced his own unique spin on the character.

Michael happened to stumble upon Jordu’s sketch with Stephen King’s 75th birthday approaching. Inspired by that long ago conversation—as well the author’s eclectic tastes—Michael decided to add an old-time monster feel to this deliciously evil riff on Mordred.

This original painting of Mordred includes the framed sketch by Jordu that inspired it.
