ORLEANS, MA – The highlight of the summer season at Tree’s Place gallery features masterful works of fantastic realism by Michael Whelan, Donato Giancola, Michael Alfano and Robert Vickrey.
Tree’s Place has been exhibiting and selling Whelan’s fine art since 1997. Whelan first discovered the gallery while viewing works by master of egg tempera Robert Vickrey. The artists would combine for a series of two-man shows over the years until Vickrey’s passing in 2011.
Whelan will be presenting new paintings SANCTUARY and OBSERVATION DECK along with several other personal visions including: DREAMSEEKER, ELLIE’S DREAM, IN A WORLD OF HER OWN, SEAWALL, THE END OF NATURE VII, and WIDE.

Stories of fantasy and science fiction dominate today’s cultural mainstream, and illustration plays a central role in the appeal and popular acceptance of the fantasy narrative.
This show features the innovators who have given shape and substance to the world’s most imaginative kinds of storytelling, and the more than 100 works on display encompass a full range of otherworldly images—from dragons, specters and demons, to the far reaches of deep space.
